Boys Hoops Update

There’s been a ton of fun high school action so far this week. I now know why most HS sports writers avoid releasing their top 10 before New Year’s!

Boys Basketball Notes: Our preseason rankings, put together by my basketball expert and myself, were shattered by the time most teams had played 2 games. Our preseason #1 Delbarton took a tough 3-point loss to DePaul on Tuesday. The Green Wave’s comeback fell just short as 29 points by Justin Crosgrile helped cut a 7 point halftime deficit. Delbarton opened with a quality win over a strong Madison squad on Friday. Our #2 Mendham should moves to the #1 spot with wins over Summit 48-21 and a very convincing win over Chatham 53-34. Morris County Soccer MVP, Shane Atha showed his versatility by pouring in 5 and 13 points in the two games. Our #3, Morristown rebounded from an opening round loss to Seton Hall Prep 65-46 with a convincing 54-41 victory over East Orange. Preseason #4 Par Hills opened with a tough loss to Chatham and came right back beating Hanover Park. Our #5 Madison fell to Delbarton on opening night, but bounced back with 40-point victory over 0-2 Butler. #6 West Morris fell to Roxbury 47-45. Our expert never even mentioned that Roxbury would be a stronger IHC team, but they’ll be in our top 10 next week! #7 – The Bombers from Boonton took down Newark-Art and squeezed out a 1 point victory over Essex County’s Verona. #8 – Randolph lost both games to Mt. Olive and West Morris, and look to gain their 1st victory Friday against Livingston. (I think we can all see that the IHC-Iron is one tough Hoops conference.) #9 Morris Catholic must love their new conference, opening with 2 wins. #10 Morris Hills can put up points. The Scarlet Knights poured in 81 Tuesday against Dover improving to 2-0.

I will have a new top 10 by Christmas! Morristown-Beard and Roxbury should be making a showing in the MCHSS top 10 ... but let's see how the week pans out.

Our staff wants to wish Villa Walsh Girls Hoops a bit of luck. The Morristown school plays in the Northern Hills Conference. Here's a team that may surprise some of the Morris county Hoops fans, but those of us that love the sport remember Villa's 2005 MCT upset of a strong Chatham team. But those of you that know me, know I am all this year and this year looks promising for the Vikings. In an opening day victory over Madison 51-29, Tracy Borsinger dropped in 20 points. Paige Gesicki added 11 points and Colleen Bott contributed with 10.

You can view the Villa Walsh Girls Basketball Officaial site: www.villahoops.com

The Vikings are off t0 Newark-West Side in hopes of grabbing a 3-0 start in the NHC.

This site covers many of the sports in the Morris County area. Please take a look by going to this link.

Please feel free to to the "Galleries" or "Search" section. In fact, in the "Search" section, you can use the Search bar to find images by school, by sport by date and image orientation.
