MCT - Mendham 8 - Kinnelon 1



This may have been the perfect set up for an upset. Kinnelon has been playing well and traveled to Mendham on the tails of a stellar MCT performance against Dover. Mendham has played well all season, yet suffered a few tough losses. The Lady Minutemen had to come back less than 24 hours after a 2-out, 4-run comeback to topple Hills division leader West Essex, nonetheless against a dominant pitcher such as Danielle Bertscha.

Whatever Coach Wells conjured up to assure that her team was ready for this al important MCT game, it worked well. Mendham pressured the Colts defense and put the ball tallying 12 hits en route to an 8-1 victory over Kinnelon.

Mendham set the message early that a let down was not in the making. The Minutemen put up a 3-spot in the bottom of first and immediately answered Kinnelon’s run in the top of the 3rd by adding another 3 runs in the bottom frame. Seven Mendham batters accounted for the 12 hits, with four players recorded a multi-hit game. Leadoff batter Dani Thorwarth, Ali Bahneman and clean-up hitter Jen Schmitt all has two hits a piece. Designated Hitter, Cydney Gowing turned in a top-notch performance at the plate going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and a run scored.

Pitchers Lisa Gerolamo and Amy Appel combined for the victory. Gerolamo benefited from the early run barrage and recorded her 4th win of the season. Mendham improved to 8-3 and will face the #3-seed Mt. Olive on Sturday.

Hailey Jester struck out 8 and Ariana Infozino had two hits for the Colts. Kinnelon fell to 10-3.
