The Final Word on Football:

Top 10:

  1. Delbarton
  2. Par Hills
  3. Montville
  4. Morristown
  5. Randolph
  6. Mtn Lakes
  7. Roxbury
  8. Hanover Park
  9. West Morris
  10. Morris Hills

Coaches of the Year:

  1. Brian Bowers (Delbarton) – Team improved every game
  2. Gerry Gallagher (Montville) – Dream season and well deserved

Best Quote by a Coach: Hanover Park’s Dan Gregory after his team came back to beat Mendham in the North 2 – Group 2 playoff game: “I should probably be selling hot dogs or something …” From Steve Tober’s Article in the Daily Record

Team of the Year: Par Hills – hands down just outstanding. The toughest part of their season was that they to wait to late October to see a team of their caliber. West Essex (Gr. 2-No. 2 State Champ), Weequahic (Central Group 2), Roxbury and the Wayne Hills Game were all extremely memorable. I sincerely regret not getting up to Teaneck to watch that, but I can honestly say that the Road to Rutgers was not an easy one.

Juniors to watch: Mike Bizzaro – Whippany Park; Chris Neinstedt – Kinnelon; Eugene Fowler – Par Hills; Mike Betz Mo-Beard; Ryan Hinton - Hanover Park (email me some more so I can get a better list)

Sophomores to watch: #16 Alex White from Delbarton – you need to see this kid hit. He has a nose for the ball. He wants to hit and punish the ball carrier and plays great pass D. During the State Final Game vs. Immaculata, the official stats had him with 6 tackles and 6 assists. I can tell you he was in a lot more tackles. – No secret here – Look for Mike Suk to produce for Randolph next year – but first, watch what this kid can do on the mat.

Best Meatball Sandwich: Of all the sites I went to, Par Hills had it! Hanover Park used to be great, but this year was just blah.

Best Turf: Rutgers!! Completely unfair and not even Morris County. Chatham - the best I have seen - it makes Morris Catholic's look that that poolside stuff.

Best Booth: Mendham. The new digs are all that and a bag of Donuts, not to mention that the spotter bought me hot chocolate.

Worst Internet/Cell phone Reception: Mt. Lakes - I could not hold one bar for any extended period of time. The Parking lot is like bat's wings off the field, so I was forced to run back to the car as much as possible to do live updates. No more live play-by-play at Mt. Lakes until they get a tower.

Best Person I met this year: This year was great. I have met so many people through doing stats, doing this site, etc, but the best had to be Joe Nolan from WPLJ. The Traffic expert was hosting radio cast at the WE-HP playoff game.
