Girls Soccer MCT: Par Hills 1-0

Parsippany Hills Slips Past Montville, 1-0

In Parsippany, the #14 seed Lady Vikings of Parsippany Hills beat the #19 seed Lady Mustangs of Montville 1-0, in the Morris County Tournament Prelims. The Lady Vikings will face the #3 seed Randolph Rams in the next round.

Parsippany Hills controlled the first half but they were unable to score. The Vikings pressured all half but the vistor’s defense, lead by Jessica DiPiazza and goalie Lisa Suroweic, was up to the task. Parsippany Hills managed half a dozen shots in the first half and kept the ball near the Montville goal the entire half. The Montville counterattack was somewhat successful, but Montville was unable to produce offense in the final ten minutes of the half after left wing Lindsey Karl received a yellow card. The first half ended 0-0.

The second half opened up with an offense flurry from both squads. Montville had a few early chances but Parsippany Hills connected first on a goal by Brianna Ruja. The goal occurred off a quick free kick that caught the Montville defense asleep as Lauren Proguardi booted the ball past the back line. Then Ruja shot and the ball skimmed off Suroweic’s glove and into the net. Montville furiously tried for an equalizer but after ten minutes, Parsippany Hills had weather the worst of the counterattack. The closest the Mustangs got was off a free kick by Lindsey McNabb that bounced over the Lady Viking defense and to Ashley Miller. Miller’s shot glanced off goalie Rachel Buraen’s glove and just wide of the post. Parsippany Hills controlled the remainder of the game and Montville only could muster shots from 30 yards out that were well wide. The Vikings finished with 15 shots with seven on goal with one finding the back off the net. The Lady Mustangs had 10 shots with four on goal.
